The Tang Institute

Officially launched in the fall of 2014 at Phillips Academy Andover, the Tang Institute was founded to catalyze innovative approaches to teaching and learning, with the goal of having lasting impact on campus and beyond. The Institute initially grew from the “Creativity & Innovation” pillar in Phillips Academy Andover’s 2014 Strategic Plan, but is designed to support projects that extend across the plan’s other strategic priorities of Empathy & Balance and Equity & Inclusion.

Over these years, the Institute has nurtured an array of ideas that range from early stage pilots to more mature department-led efforts to bridge the digital divide and address how educators can best prepare students for an increasingly globalized and interconnected world. This includes redesigning curriculum around hybrid and online teaching, digital platforms and resources, and interdisciplinary initiatives, among others.
